The National Testing Agency has officially announced that the NEET UG 2026 re examination will be conducted on June 21 following the cancellation of the earlier test over paper leak allegations. The announcement has brought clarity to lakhs of medical aspirants who were waiting for a final decision after weeks of uncertainty.

The original examination, held on May 3 for admissions into MBBS, BDS and other medical courses, became controversial after reports emerged that the question paper had been leaked in several states before the test began. Following widespread criticism and complaints, authorities decided to cancel the examination.

Investigators are currently probing the alleged leak, with the Central Bureau of Investigation continuing its inquiry into the matter. Officials reportedly traced the first signs of the leak to the Sikar region in Rajasthan. According to preliminary findings, some students allegedly received chemistry questions before the examination, and several of those questions later appeared in the actual paper.

Sources involved in the investigation said the sequence of questions and answer options also matched, strengthening suspicions that the paper had been leaked. Agencies suspect the question paper may have spread from Nashik in Maharashtra to multiple states before the examination was conducted.

During the investigation, officials found evidence suggesting that the leaked paper may have reached students in Rajasthan, Haryana, Kerala and Jammu and Kashmir. Several key suspects connected to the case have already been taken into custody and are being questioned.

Meanwhile, the NTA clarified that students do not need to submit fresh applications for the re examination. It also confirmed that no additional fee will be collected from candidates. New hall tickets and examination centre details are expected to be released soon.

With nearly 23 lakh students likely to appear for the examination again, authorities are preparing for large scale arrangements across the country to ensure the process remains secure and transparent this time.
