Andhra Pradesh has taken a major step toward becoming a national hub for defence manufacturing and drone technology with the launch of three large scale defence projects in Puttaparthi of Sri Sathya Sai district. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu jointly laid the foundation stones for the projects on Friday.

The combined investment value of these projects is estimated at nearly Rs 2959 crore. Officials believe the new industries will create significant employment opportunities for local youth through both direct and indirect recruitment.

Leading Indian defence companies including Bharat Dynamics Limited, Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited, and HFCL are setting up the upcoming facilities. The state government expects nearly 1935 jobs to be generated once the projects become operational.

Apart from defence manufacturing, the government has also started work on an ambitious Drone City initiative in Puttaparthi. The project aims to transform the region into a key centre for drone production and advanced aerospace technology in India.

Several drone manufacturing units are expected to begin operations in the coming years, helping Andhra Pradesh attract investments in emerging technology sectors. Officials said the initiative would also improve technical training and skill development opportunities for young professionals in the region.

The inauguration event witnessed the participation of several senior leaders from both the Centre and the state government. IT Minister Nara Lokesh, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, ministers TG Bharat, Satya Kumar Yadav, and Anagani Satya Prasad attended the ceremony.

Representatives from major defence companies and BJP state president PVN Madhav were also present during the programme. The state government highlighted that Andhra Pradesh is creating a strong industrial ecosystem capable of attracting high value investments from strategic sectors.

Officials described the projects as an important milestone in expanding India’s domestic defence production capacity while also accelerating industrial growth in Andhra Pradesh.
