Tired of Random WhatsApp Calls Here Is the Simple Setting You Should Enable
WhatsApp users can now reduce spam and unknown calls easily by enabling a built in privacy feature that silently blocks unwanted voice and video calls from strangers instantly.

Unwanted WhatsApp calls have become a growing headache for smartphone users across the world. From spam promotions to scam attempts from international numbers, many people are now receiving frequent voice and video calls from strangers on the messaging platform. To tackle this problem, WhatsApp offers a hidden privacy feature that can quietly stop these calls from disturbing users.
With billions of monthly active users globally and hundreds of millions in India alone, WhatsApp has become one of the most used communication platforms for chatting, calling and media sharing. But as its popularity has increased, scammers and fraudsters have also started targeting users through fake calls pretending to be customer care executives, delivery agents or banking officials.
To help users stay protected, WhatsApp introduced a feature called Silence Unknown Callers. Once enabled, the app automatically silences calls coming from numbers that are not saved in the user’s contact list or have never interacted with them before.
The biggest advantage of this feature is that it does not completely block the caller. Instead of making the phone ring loudly, WhatsApp quietly sends the call to notifications and call history. This allows users to check missed calls later without getting interrupted during work, meetings or sleep.
Many users may not even realize this privacy option already exists inside the app settings. The feature works on both Android smartphones and iPhones and can be activated within a minute.
To enable the setting on Android devices, users need to open WhatsApp, tap the three dot menu in the top right corner and go to Settings. From there, they should open the Privacy section and scroll down to find the Calls option. Inside that menu, the Silence Unknown Callers toggle can simply be turned on.
For iPhone users, the process is almost similar. The Settings tab appears at the bottom of the WhatsApp application, after which users can navigate to Privacy and then Calls to activate the same feature.
Experts believe this tool has become increasingly important because internet based calls often bypass traditional telecom spam filters. Fraudsters take advantage of this loophole to contact users from unknown or foreign numbers and attempt scams.
However, the feature does come with some limitations. If a user has previously contacted an unsaved number through messages or calls, WhatsApp may stop treating that contact as unknown. In such cases, future calls from that number may still ring normally. This situation commonly happens with temporary contacts like delivery executives or work related numbers.
Despite that limitation, the feature still offers better control over unwanted interruptions. Instead of constantly answering suspicious calls or manually blocking numbers one by one, users can reduce disturbances with a single setting.
As online scams continue to rise, digital privacy tools are becoming more important for everyday smartphone users. While this WhatsApp feature may not completely eliminate spam, it can significantly reduce distractions and help users stay more focused and secure in their daily routine.
