Apple Watch Can Now Detect Sleep Apnea Signs as Apple Expands Health Features in India

Apple has introduced sleep apnea alerts for Apple Watch users in India along with a new hearing test feature on AirPods Pro to improve everyday health monitoring and early detection.

Apple is strengthening its health focused ecosystem in India with the rollout of two important wellness features for Apple Watch and AirPods Pro users. The company has officially introduced sleep apnea notifications on Apple Watch and also launched a built in hearing test tool for AirPods Pro users. These updates are designed to help people identify health issues early without needing complicated medical devices at home.

The new sleep apnea detection feature on Apple Watch is expected to become especially useful for people who unknowingly struggle with interrupted breathing during sleep. Sleep apnea is a condition where breathing repeatedly stops and starts while sleeping, often leading to poor sleep quality and lower oxygen levels in the body. Many people remain unaware they are affected because the symptoms are difficult to notice without medical testing.

Apple says the feature continuously studies breathing disturbances during sleep using the motion tracking abilities of the Apple Watch. The smartwatch uses its built in accelerometer to monitor subtle wrist movements connected to irregular breathing patterns. Instead of giving instant warnings after a single night, the system collects sleep data over 30 days to identify repeated signs linked to moderate or severe sleep apnea.

If the watch notices consistent irregular breathing patterns over time, users receive a notification through the Health app advising them to seek medical consultation. According to Apple, the algorithm behind this feature was developed using machine learning and tested with clinical grade sleep data. The company also stated that the technology has undergone large scale clinical validation before being introduced to users.

Health experts believe early detection of sleep apnea can help reduce risks linked to long term conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Since many people ignore symptoms like daytime fatigue or loud snoring, wearable devices may encourage earlier medical attention.

Alongside sleep monitoring, Apple has also introduced a hearing test feature for AirPods Pro users in India. The feature is available through the Hearing Help section on compatible iPhones and iPads. Users can complete the hearing test in about five minutes by listening to sounds at different frequencies and responding whenever they hear a tone.

The process is designed to be simple and user friendly. Before the test begins, the device checks surrounding noise levels and performs an Ear Tip Fit Test to ensure proper earbud placement. During the hearing assessment, users hear tones multiple times across different sound frequencies ranging from low to high pitch.

Once the test is completed, users receive a detailed report that includes hearing results measured in decibels along with an audiogram. The information is securely stored in the Health app for future reference. Apple emphasized that all health related data remains encrypted on device and in iCloud, ensuring user privacy stays protected.

The company says these features are especially important for countries like India where many people delay regular health screenings because of busy schedules or lack of access to specialized medical testing. By integrating health tools directly into everyday devices, Apple aims to make preventive healthcare more accessible and convenient for users.

With wearable technology increasingly becoming part of daily life, features like sleep tracking and hearing analysis are turning smartphones and smartwatches into personal health companions rather than just communication devices.
