The India Meteorological Department has warned that severe heatwave conditions are likely to affect 11 districts on Friday. Residents of Asifabad, Mancherial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet and Nagarkurnool have been asked to remain highly cautious and avoid unnecessary travel outside during peak daytime hours.

The impact of the extreme weather has already turned serious across Telangana. Heatstroke reportedly claimed 17 lives across the state in a single day on Thursday. Four deaths each were reported from the combined Nalgonda and Warangal regions while Karimnagar recorded three deaths. Adilabad, Mahabubnagar and Khammam districts reported two deaths each.

Several areas recorded extremely high temperatures, adding to public concern. Mutharam in Peddapalli district and Munagala in Suryapet district witnessed the highest temperature of 46.5 degrees Celsius. Many other regions also reported temperatures crossing the 46 degree mark.

Crop fires in Mahabubabad and Jangaon districts damaged hundreds of acres of agricultural land. In Hyderabad’s Old City area, a fire accident at a clothing store reportedly caused property losses worth around Rs 2 crore.

The extreme temperatures are also affecting animals and poultry farms. Hundreds of chickens reportedly died in poultry farms located in Rangareddy and Khammam districts due to unbearable heat conditions.

Meanwhile, weather officials said changing atmospheric conditions may bring thunderstorms and scattered rainfall in some places across Kothagudem, Khammam, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy and Mahabubnagar districts. Officials are asking people to stay alert as Telangana now faces the challenge of both intense heat and sudden weather changes.
