Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has stepped in to address concerns surrounding pollution in the Godavari River after reports of industrial waste entering the water body triggered serious attention. During his visit to East Godavari district, he personally inspected the affected area and sought immediate action from officials.
As part of his second day tour in the district, Pawan Kalyan visited the location near Venkatanagaram where waste discharge linked to Andhra Paper Mills was reportedly flowing into the Godavari. The situation drew strong reactions from the Deputy Chief Minister, who expressed concern over untreated industrial waste entering a river considered sacred by millions.
Officials accompanying the visit were instructed to collect polluted water samples and send them for detailed testing. Authorities were also directed to identify the source and extent of contamination without delay.
Pawan Kalyan made it clear that negligence in environmental matters would not be tolerated and stressed that immediate preventive measures should be implemented. He said strict monitoring and corrective steps are necessary to protect the river from further damage.
The state government has already indicated plans to strengthen pollution control efforts in the region. Earlier, Pawan Kalyan announced the formation of a dedicated task force aimed at preventing pollution and improving protection measures for the Godavari River.
Several public representatives and ministers accompanied the Deputy Chief Minister during the inspection visit, including Nadendla Manohar, Kandula Durgesh and local MLA Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary. Officials are expected to take further steps after receiving the test reports and assessment findings.
