Tension is growing among TGSRTC employees after union leaders objected to the government’s decision regarding union elections before the official merger process with the state government is completed. Employee organisations are now preparing for a large scale protest in Hyderabad.

Leaders of the Telangana Jateeya Mazdoor Union have demanded that the government immediately announce the appointed day for merging RTC employees into the government system. They stated that employees are facing uncertainty after recent comments made by the state transport minister regarding union elections.

The union announced that a mass protest and hunger strike will be organised at Indira Park in Hyderabad on June 1. According to TJMU founder state secretary Hanumanthu Mudiraj, the protest will take place from 10 am to 4 pm and employees from all unions have been requested to participate.

Union leaders said the merger process should be completed first and the appointed day should be declared from May 1 2026 before any union elections are conducted. They argued that holding elections before resolving merger related issues would create confusion and dissatisfaction among employees.

The Telangana RTC Workers Federation has also extended support to the protest. Federation leader K Rajireddy said several important labour related issues are still pending with the management and conducting elections at this stage may negatively affect workers.

Employee representatives further demanded that every union should be given representation in the committee that prepares guidelines and procedures related to the RTC merger process. They maintained that discussions regarding union elections can be considered only after the merger is officially completed.

Union leaders made it clear that their agitation would continue until the government announces the appointed day and provides clarity on the future of RTC employees under the merger process.
