A tragic incident involving an Indian student has shocked the Indian community in Canada after a young woman from Gujarat was brutally killed in a knife attack in the Niagara region. The victim, who had moved abroad for higher education and a better future, lost her life in the violent assault carried out by an unidentified attacker.
Police identified the deceased as Vidhi Kalpeshbhai Meghani, a 22 year old woman from Borsad town in Gujarat’s Anand district. She had reportedly been living in Canada for the past four years. Along with continuing her studies, she was also working part time to manage her daily expenses and support her education.
According to investigators, the attack took place on May 15. Authorities said the young woman was stabbed during the incident, but the exact reason behind the murder has not yet been established. Police have registered a homicide case and launched an intensive investigation to trace the accused, who remains absconding.
The heartbreaking news has left Vidhi’s family in deep grief back in India. Relatives had hoped she would build a successful career overseas, but instead received the devastating news of her death. The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of international students living abroad.
