Women in Andhra Pradesh are set to benefit from expanded financial support as the state government strengthens its Stree Nidhi loan program aimed at empowering DWCRA groups. The revised scheme now allows greater access to credit, helping women build sustainable livelihoods.
Under the updated policy, each DWCRA group can avail loans of up to eight lakh rupees, while individual members are eligible to receive amounts ranging from ten thousand to one lakh rupees. Officials say this move is designed to reduce dependence on informal borrowing and support small business activities.
The decision comes after feedback from beneficiaries who earlier found the loan limits insufficient for their growing needs. In previous financial allocations, many women could access only limited funds, which often forced them to seek additional loans from private sources. With the enhanced limit, the government aims to ease that burden.
To improve transparency and streamline repayments, authorities have introduced a dedicated digital payment application. This system enables women to repay loans directly, minimizing irregularities and ensuring better financial tracking. Borrowers need to register basic details such as phone number and group information to access the platform.
The application process remains simple. DWCRA groups can submit resolutions through DRDA Velugu offices, after which eligible applicants can receive loan approvals within a short period. The scheme ensures that all members within a group can benefit collectively.
Over the past few years, the government has gradually increased the loan ceiling, reflecting a broader push toward financial inclusion and women empowerment. With easier access to funds and improved repayment systems, the initiative is expected to strengthen the economic position of DWCRA women across the state.
Officials believe the enhanced Stree Nidhi loans will play a key role in encouraging entrepreneurship among rural women, ultimately contributing to stronger community level development and economic stability.
