In a significant move aimed at reducing human wildlife conflict, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Tuesday announced that the long standing elephant problem in agency areas and parts of Chittoor region has been effectively addressed through a structured alert mechanism.
The announcement was made in Mangalagiri during the launch of the state government’s new wildlife protection initiative titled the Hanuman Project. The Deputy CM described the programme as a landmark step in strengthening the Forest Department’s response to wildlife related challenges.
Under the initiative, an alert system has been set up in forest border villages to monitor elephant movement and issue timely warnings to residents. The system is designed to minimize unexpected encounters between villagers and wild animals, particularly in vulnerable forest fringe areas.
For years, people living in agency regions and parts of Chittoor have faced anxiety due to elephants straying into agricultural lands and residential pockets. Crop damage and safety concerns had become recurring issues, prompting the government to take preventive action.
Pawan Kalyan stated that the Hanuman Project focuses equally on protecting human lives and conserving wildlife. By improving surveillance and coordination, the government aims to ensure that both communities and animals can coexist with reduced conflict.
Officials expressed confidence that the alert system in forest border villages will significantly strengthen preventive measures and offer much needed reassurance to families living close to forest zones.
