- Free chess coaching begins at Tagore Library Vijayawada
- Weekly sessions held every Sunday for students
- Programme aims to build thinking and problem solving skills
Students in Vijayawada are getting an opportunity to learn chess free of cost through a new weekly coaching programme launched at Tagore Library.
The sessions are being conducted every Sunday from 11am to 12pm under the Chadavatam Makishtam initiative also known as We Love Reading. The programme is being organised with the support of TVCA secretary Mandula Rajeev.
Renowned chess arbiter Sheikh Qasim is leading the coaching sessions. He is training students in the fundamentals of chess including rules movement of pieces and basic strategies aimed at building a strong foundation.
Speaking at the inaugural session Grade I, Librarian K Ramadevi said chess should be seen as a learning tool rather than just a game. She explained that regular practice helps children sharpen analytical thinking, strengthen memory and improve problem solving skills.
She added that the ability to think ahead and find solutions during a game also prepares children to face challenges in everyday life with confidence.
Students from various schools attended the first session along with their parents. Library staff members including Dhanalakshmi and Venkateshwarulu were also present and encouraged children to make the best use of the initiative.
