Government restarts kerosene supply in Andhra Pradesh Amid LPG Supply Delay

Andhra Pradesh government has decided to restart kerosene distribution through ration shops from tomorrow after LPG supply delays, providing relief to ration card holders in rural and tribal areas.

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to restart kerosene distribution through ration shops in order to address temporary cooking gas shortages faced by many households. The decision comes as a relief to ration card holders, particularly in rural and tribal areas where access to alternative fuel sources can be limited.

Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar announced that the distribution will begin from tomorrow. Eligible ration card holders in rural and tribal regions will receive one litre of kerosene each through the public distribution system.

Reason behind LPG shortage

The government took this step after delays in the arrival of LPG shipments caused a temporary shortage of cooking gas supplies in the state. According to officials, international tensions in the Hormuz Strait region disrupted the movement of gas carriers, resulting in delays in LPG deliveries.

An LPG ship that was originally expected to arrive at the Visakhapatnam port on the twenty first of this month is now scheduled to reach only on the twenty sixth. This delay created concerns about maintaining a stable cooking gas supply across several districts.

Temporary relief for households

Although Andhra Pradesh had previously moved towards becoming a kerosene free state, the government decided to reintroduce limited distribution as an emergency measure. The move is aimed at ensuring that families do not face difficulties in cooking due to the temporary disruption in LPG availability.

By providing kerosene through ration shops, authorities hope to support households until normal gas supplies are restored.

Central government allocation of kerosene

To help manage the situation, the central government has allocated approximately two thousand eight hundred kilolitres of kerosene to Andhra Pradesh. This additional supply will be distributed through the public distribution system over the coming days.

Officials stated that the arrangement is temporary and intended only to address the current supply gap caused by the delayed LPG shipment. Once gas supplies return to normal levels, the state is expected to gradually withdraw the emergency kerosene distribution.
