Lemon Prices Surge in Andhra Pradesh Touch Rs 200 Per Kg Amid Rising Demand

Lemon prices in Andhra Pradesh rise sharply to Rs 200 per kg as demand increases during summer and supply drops significantly pushing rates close to apple prices.

  • Lemon prices reach Rs 200 per kg in Andhra Pradesh
  • Demand rises for lemons due to summer heat
  • Supply drop pushes lemon prices higher

Lemon prices in Andhra Pradesh have witnessed a sharp spike, reaching levels that are now being compared with the cost of apples. The sudden surge has caught the attention of both consumers and traders as the summer season intensifies across the state.

In Gudur market of Nellore district, prices have climbed steeply, with a 50 kilogram bag reportedly selling for around ten thousand rupees. This translates to nearly Rs 200 per kilogram, a significant jump from last week when lemons were priced between Rs 130 and Rs 150.

Traders attribute the price rise primarily to a drop in production. Lower yields this season have reduced supply in the market, creating a gap that is driving prices upward.

At the same time, soaring temperatures have pushed up demand for lemons, especially as people turn to lemon based drinks to stay hydrated and beat the heat. This seasonal surge in consumption has further tightened availability.

The combination of falling supply and rising demand has led to an unusual price trend, where lemons are now competing with fruits like apples in terms of cost. Consumers are feeling the pinch as daily expenses rise, while traders expect prices to remain high until supply improves.

With summer still at its peak, market watchers believe lemon prices may stay elevated in the coming weeks unless fresh arrivals increase significantly.
