A brief spell of earthquake tremors caused panic among residents in Ongole city of Prakasam district during the early hours of Saturday. The sudden ground movement was reported around 1:45 am and lasted only a few seconds, but it was enough to wake people from deep sleep and create fear across several neighbourhoods.
Locals from Sriramapuram Colony and areas near CSR Sharma College said they felt noticeable vibrations accompanied by a loud sound. Many residents immediately stepped out of their homes in confusion, unsure about what had happened.
People living in apartment buildings were seen rushing downstairs through staircases as a precaution. Several families remained outdoors for nearly an hour before returning home after the situation appeared normal again.
Officials later confirmed that the tremors were mild in nature and did not cause any damage to property or loss of life. Authorities stated that no incidents such as wall collapses or structural damage were reported anywhere in Ongole or nearby areas.
The confirmation from officials brought relief to residents who had initially feared a stronger earthquake. District authorities said the situation remains peaceful and there is no cause for concern at present.
