Raising concerns over rising airfare, Tirupati MP Gurumurthy has urged the central government to bring down flight ticket prices between Hyderabad and Tirupati, stating that the current fares are putting undue pressure on passengers.

In a letter addressed to Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, the MP pointed out that ticket prices on this route are significantly higher compared to several major city connections across the country. He noted that this goes against the objective of the UDAN scheme, which aims to make air travel affordable for common people.

Highlighting the disparity, Gurumurthy compared fares from Hyderabad to cities like Goa, Chennai and Delhi, where ticket prices remain relatively moderate. In contrast, fares to Tirupati often range between six thousand and nine thousand rupees and occasionally surge up to much higher levels.

Despite the high costs, the route continues to witness strong demand. Data shared by the MP shows that between April 2025 and March 2026, over 13 thousand flights operated on this route, carrying nearly 12 lakh passengers. In March alone, around 88 thousand passengers travelled through more than 800 flights, with an average of 16 to 17 flights operating daily.

The MP alleged that airlines may be deliberately operating smaller aircraft to create seat shortages, leading to increased ticket prices. He emphasized that a large number of passengers on this route are pilgrims visiting Tirumala and belong to middle income groups, making the high fares particularly burdensome.

Gurumurthy urged the Centre to intervene and ensure fair pricing so that air travel remains accessible, especially for those travelling for religious purposes. He stressed that addressing this issue would align with the broader goal of making aviation inclusive and affordable.
