A major road project in Andhra Pradesh is moving at a faster pace, promising quicker and smoother travel to Bengaluru for thousands of commuters. The National Highway 167K, now under rapid construction in Nandyal district, is emerging as a key connectivity corridor.

The state government has stepped up its focus on national and state highways, with the Chief Minister personally reviewing progress on routes linking major cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Following these reviews, officials pushed forward work on the 167K highway, identifying it as a strategic link for southern travel.

The new highway stretches about 62 kilometres from Nandyal through Kovelakuntla to Nossam and will further connect to the Jammalamadugu Kadapa road. Once operational, officials say the route will shorten the journey to Bengaluru by nearly 60 to 65 kilometres, allowing travelers to reach the city in under six hours.

The project is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 692 crore, with land acquisition covering nearly 486 acres. The highway passes through six mandals and 22 villages in Nandyal district. Construction includes three bridges, 158 culverts, and four bypass roads at Kovelakuntla, Rythunagaram, Nossam, and Gospadu to ease traffic flow.

Authorities expect major components such as bypasses and culverts to be completed by March this year. Once these are open, travel between Nandyal and Nossam is likely to take less than an hour, significantly easing daily movement.

The completed highway is expected to benefit residents of Kurnool and Nandyal districts, especially IT professionals, traders, and workers who regularly travel to Bengaluru. With reduced congestion and a more direct route, National Highway 167K is set to become a vital lifeline for regional growth and mobility.
