A major tribute to freedom fighter Potti Sriramulu is set to take place in Amaravati as a massive bronze statue of the leader will be unveiled today. The statue inauguration will be carried out by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu as part of the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of the historic figure.

The unveiling ceremony is scheduled for 11.30 am and will be attended by several political leaders and public representatives. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan is also expected to take part in the programme along with Minister Nara Lokesh, other ministers, legislators and prominent personalities.

The statue has been installed as a tribute to Potti Sriramulu who is remembered as a freedom fighter and a key figure in the formation of Andhra State. His sacrifice for the cause of a separate state for Telugu speaking people remains an important chapter in the history of the region.

Potti Sriramulu undertook a 58 day hunger strike demanding the formation of Andhra State and eventually sacrificed his life for the movement. The newly installed statue symbolically reflects that historic struggle and his dedication to the cause.

The 58 foot tall statue has been constructed using 26 tonnes of bronze and 42 tonnes of iron. It has been installed in a memorial complex being developed near Tulluru in Amaravati. The memorial park is spread across nearly 6.8 acres and is being developed under the supervision of the Potti Sriramulu Memorial Trust.

This statue is considered the first major large scale statue installation in Amaravati and is expected to become an important landmark in the region. Large scale arrangements have been made to mark the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of the freedom fighter.

After attending the statue unveiling ceremony, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is expected to travel to the Secretariat in Amaravati around 1.45 pm. There he may review the impact of global conflicts and gas supply related issues during a meeting at the Real Time Governance Society.

Later in the evening, the Chief Minister is scheduled to attend an Iftar gathering organised by the state government in Vijayawada as part of the Ramzan month observances. Several public representatives and members of the Muslim community are expected to participate in the event.
