A quiet residential area in Viswanatharaopeta village of Nellore district woke up to screams past midnight as neighbours rushed out of their homes. Inside one house, they found a pregnant woman lying in a pool of blood after a vicious knife attack.

Police said the accused works as an assistant loco pilot with the railways. Though married for nearly a decade and father to two children, he had been living separately from his wife following disputes. His wife and children currently stay in Visakhapatnam, while legal issues between the couple are still unresolved.

During this period, he reportedly began living with another woman named Karuna. What started as a live in relationship soon turned tense, with frequent arguments and growing suspicion between the two, according to preliminary police findings.

On the night of the incident, a heated quarrel allegedly escalated out of control. In a sudden burst of rage, the man attacked Karuna with a knife, stabbing her repeatedly. Doctors later confirmed that she suffered fourteen stab wounds.

Local residents immediately alerted emergency services after hearing her cries. She was first shifted to a nearby government hospital and later referred to Nellore for advanced treatment. Medical staff described her condition as critical.

Investigators believe suspicion and personal conflicts may have triggered the assault. The brutality of the attack has shocked villagers, many of whom said they never expected such violence inside the home.

A case has been registered and the Bitragunta police have begun a detailed probe. Officers are collecting statements and examining all aspects of the relationship to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the attempted murder.
