In a significant administrative development senior IAS officer Saikumar has been appointed as the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary drawing attention across both political and governance circles. Saikumar who belongs to Telugu origins was born in Telangana and completed his education in Hyderabad. He pursued his Masters degree in Political Science from Hyderabad Central University and later earned a PhD in Public Affairs from the University of Madras reflecting a strong academic foundation.
His career in civil services began in 1990 when he joined the Tamil Nadu cadre as an IAS officer. Over the years he steadily rose through the ranks starting from Assistant Collector to eventually reaching the highest administrative position in the state.
Throughout his long service Saikumar held several key roles including District Collector of Dharmapuri and Commissioner of Madurai Corporation where he gained recognition for addressing ground level issues effectively. He also served as Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board contributing to major administrative decisions.
In 2018 he worked as Principal Secretary to then Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami playing an important role in governance. Later he handled responsibilities as Secretary of the Public Works Department and in 2021 served as Commissioner of Revenue Administration.
Since 2022 he has been serving as Chairman of Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited further strengthening his administrative profile. With decades of experience and a reputation for efficiency Saikumar has now taken charge as Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary marking a significant milestone in his career.
