Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay met former Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin at his Chennai residence on Monday. The meeting took place shortly after Vijay completed his oath taking ceremony as an MLA in the Assembly.
The visit quickly became a major talking point in Tamil Nadu politics as this was the first time Vijay met Stalin after assuming office as Chief Minister. Political observers viewed the meeting as an important gesture between the two leaders following the recent political developments in the state.
Stalin warmly received Vijay at his residence and greeted him with an embrace. During the interaction, Stalin also honoured Vijay with a traditional shawl. Former minister Udhayanidhi Stalin was present during the meeting and joined the leaders in the discussion.
Sources close to the political circles indicated that Vijay personally visited Stalin to express gratitude for the indirect support extended during the government formation process. The Vijay led government came to power with the backing of DMK alliance partners including Congress, VCK, CPI and CPM.
It is understood that Stalin had given complete freedom to alliance parties regarding their support to TVK during the political transition. Because of this, Vijay’s meeting with Stalin is being seen as a significant political courtesy visit that may influence future political equations in Tamil Nadu.
The visuals of Vijay and Stalin greeting each other warmly have now created fresh interest among political supporters and party workers across the state.
