A tragic incident involving an RTC driver has intensified political tensions in Telangana after Shankar Goud succumbed to severe burn injuries early this morning. The driver had attempted suicide in front of the Narsampet depot a day earlier and was undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital, where he later passed away.
Shankar Goud had sustained nearly 80 percent burn injuries in the incident, and despite medical efforts, he could not survive. His death has cast a shadow of grief across the state, especially among transport workers and employee unions.
Reacting strongly to the incident, T. Harish Rao criticized the leadership of Revanth Reddy and the Congress government. He alleged that the government’s failure to address promises made before the elections and its negligence contributed to the unfortunate death of the RTC driver.
Harish Rao demanded that the government officially recognize the day of Shankar Goud’s death as an Appointed Day in his memory, calling for respect towards his sacrifice. At the same time, he urged RTC employees not to resort to extreme steps like suicide and instead continue their fight for rights through collective action.
The mortal remains of Shankar Goud are being transported to his hometown, where his last rites are expected to take place later today. A large turnout of workers and political leaders is anticipated, prompting authorities to deploy heavy police presence in and around Narsampet and Warangal to maintain order.
