- Telangana Cabinet approves ten lakh employee benefit and cashless health scheme.
- Government moves to take over Hyderabad Metro to enable future expansion.
- Health care reforms and major road development projects also cleared.
The Telangana government has announced a series of high impact decisions that bring major relief to employees and pensioners while also reshaping key urban infrastructure plans. The Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, approved new welfare schemes alongside a decisive move to take over the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.
One of the most significant announcements is a financial protection measure for government staff. If an employee passes away before the age of sixty, the family will now receive an additional ten lakh rupees over and above existing service benefits. This decision is expected to benefit thousands of families and provide long term financial security during difficult times.
The Cabinet has also cleared the long awaited cashless employee health scheme. Under this system, nearly seventeen point seven lakh employees and pensioners will receive digital employee health cards. Treatment for one thousand nine hundred ninety eight diseases will be covered across six hundred fifty two hospitals statewide. To fund the scheme, one point five percent will be deducted from the basic pay of employees, with the government contributing an equal amount to the health trust.
On the infrastructure front, the state has decided to take full control of the Hyderabad Metro Rail from L and T. A ministerial sub committee led by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka will oversee negotiations and the transfer process. The estimated takeover value stands at around fifteen thousand crore rupees, including outstanding loans and equity. Officials say this step is crucial for securing central approval for Metro Phase Two expansion.
In parallel, the Cabinet approved reforms in the public health system by upgrading the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad into the Directorate of Secondary Health Care to speed up funding, procurement and salary disbursement. Major road upgrades under the GHMC limits, new village inclusions under HMDA, and preparations for the 2027 national census were also cleared.
Together, these decisions underline the government’s focus on employee welfare, health care access, and urban development as Telangana prepares for its next phase of growth.
