Voting for the Telangana Municipal Polling commenced early this morning with election officials placing cities and towns on high alert to ensure smooth conduct. Polling began at 7 am and will continue until 5 pm, allowing voters across the state to exercise their democratic right.
Elections are being held in 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations. Out of 2,582 municipal wards, 12 were declared unanimous while polling was postponed in one ward. Voting is currently underway in the remaining 2,569 wards. In the municipal corporations, two wards were settled unanimously, with polling being conducted in 412 wards today.
More than 52 lakh voters are eligible to cast their ballots in this election. Officials stated that the electorate includes over 25 lakh men and nearly 27 lakh women, along with other registered voters. The results will be counted from 8 am on the 13th of this month, while elections for chairpersons, vice chairpersons, mayors and deputy mayors are scheduled for the 16th.
To manage the large scale exercise, authorities have set up 6,017 polling stations in municipalities and 2,174 polling stations in municipal corporations. As many as 10,719 candidates are in the fray across the wards. Nearly 41,773 polling personnel have been deployed, supported by 1,379 returning officers. Additionally, webcasting arrangements have been made at 8,191 polling stations to maintain transparency.
Security has been tightened across urban centres, with police and election officials working round the clock to ensure peaceful Telangana Municipal Polling. Officials expressed confidence that the arrangements in place would help conduct the elections in a fair and orderly manner, reflecting the spirit of local democracy in the state.
