Indian Railways Announces Limited Period Discount on Unreserved Tickets

Passengers booking unreserved train tickets through digital payment methods can avail up to three percent discount under a special Railway initiative valid until July 14, 2026 across India

In a move aimed at easing daily travel expenses, Indian Railways has introduced a limited time discount on unreserved train tickets. The offer allows passengers to save up to three percent on ticket fares, provided bookings are made through digital payment modes. This initiative is available until July 14, 2026.

The discount is being rolled out through the newly launched RailOne app, which enables passengers to conveniently book unreserved tickets without standing in long queues. Railway officials say the scheme is designed not only to provide financial relief but also to promote cashless transactions among commuters.

To benefit from the offer, passengers must choose digital payment options such as UPI, debit cards, credit cards, or net banking while booking tickets. The discount is automatically applied during the transaction. However, those purchasing tickets with cash at station counters will not be eligible for this concession.

The scheme is expected to significantly benefit daily commuters, especially in smaller cities and towns where trains remain a primary mode of transport. Office-goers, students, and small traders who rely on regular travel could see noticeable savings over time. Additionally, the use of the app helps avoid crowded ticket counters, saving both time and effort.

Booking a discounted ticket is straightforward. After downloading and logging into the RailOne app, users need to select the unreserved ticket option, enter their journey details, and proceed with a digital payment. Once the payment is completed, the reduced fare is reflected instantly, and the ticket can be saved digitally for travel.

Railways officials believe this initiative will encourage wider adoption of digital platforms while making train travel more affordable for millions of passengers across the country.
