OnePlus Halts Latest OxygenOS Update After Users Report Restart and Boot Problems

OnePlus users who rushed to install the latest OxygenOS update are now facing unexpected trouble, as the company has officially paused the rollout following multiple complaints related to device stability. Several users reported that their smartphones started restarting automatically after installing the new software, while others experienced boot related issues that made devices difficult to use normally.

The company has temporarily stopped distributing OxygenOS 16.0.7.XXX and OxygenOS 16.0.5.XXX builds for selected devices while its engineering team investigates the root cause behind the issue. OnePlus confirmed that the decision was taken to protect user experience and prevent further software instability.

According to the company, the update suspension will remain in place until engineers complete testing and verify a stable solution. At the moment, OnePlus has not shared an exact timeline for when the rollout will resume. Users who have not yet updated their smartphones are being advised to avoid installing these software versions until a fixed build becomes available.

The situation has frustrated many customers because software updates are generally expected to improve device performance and security. Instead, some users found themselves dealing with repeated restarts and unstable system behavior shortly after upgrading their phones. Reports suggest that the issue appeared soon after the update installation process was completed.

OnePlus stated in its official communication that maintaining device stability remains the company’s top priority. The brand also clarified that the engineering team is actively working on identifying the exact reason behind the malfunction and preparing a corrected version of the update for public release.

At present, there is no official temporary fix available for users already affected by the issue. OnePlus has not yet announced whether impacted users will receive a rollback option or a separate emergency patch. Many customers are now waiting for the company to provide additional support instructions through its community forums and official channels.

While the software issue continues to make headlines, OnePlus is also preparing for its next major software phase with the development of OxygenOS 17 based on Android 17. The update is expected to reach more than a dozen eligible devices later this year. However, for some smartphones and tablets, Android 17 will reportedly be the final major operating system upgrade.

Among the devices expected to receive their last big Android update are the OnePlus Open, OnePlus 12R, OnePlus 11 and OnePlus Pad 2. These products were launched with promised software support timelines, and Android 17 is expected to mark the end of their major OS upgrade cycle.

The OnePlus Open, which debuted with Android 13, was promised four major Android upgrades by the company. After receiving multiple software updates already, Android 17 is expected to become its final large scale operating system release. The same situation applies to the OnePlus 11, another premium smartphone that entered the market with Android 13 support.

Meanwhile, the OnePlus 12R and OnePlus Pad 2 were launched with Android 14 and are eligible for three major operating system upgrades. Both devices are also expected to receive Android 17 as their final scheduled software version before moving into security update support only.

Even after the final Android upgrade arrives, OnePlus is expected to continue delivering security patches for a limited period. This means users will still receive important protection updates, although they may not get future Android feature upgrades beyond Android 17.

The latest update controversy comes at a sensitive time for OnePlus, especially as customers increasingly expect long term software reliability from premium smartphones. Many users are now waiting for the company to release a stable version quickly and restore confidence in its software update process.
