WhatsApp Tests New Draft Feature for Photos and Videos on iOS
WhatsApp is testing a new iOS feature that lets users save edited photos and videos as drafts making media sharing smoother more flexible and less frustrating during everyday chats and group conversations

WhatsApp continues to refine its user experience with a practical new feature aimed at frequent photo and video sharers. The messaging platform is now testing a tool that allows users to save edited media as drafts instead of sending it immediately or losing changes midway.
The feature has been spotted in WhatsApp beta for iOS version 26.5.10.73, currently available through the TestFlight app. According to information shared by WABetaInfo, the update works across both individual chats and group conversations, focusing on smoother media handling.
With this new option, users editing a photo or video can save it instantly as a draft. A new save button appears within the media editor screen, placed near the existing toggle that lets users choose between standard and high quality uploads. Once tapped, the media is saved without being sent.
After saving, a confirmation message briefly appears at the center of the screen, informing users that the photo or video has been stored successfully. The saved media then shows up in the phone Photos app under recent items, making it easy to access and share later.
This change addresses a common frustration faced by users. Earlier, if someone exited the editor without sending the media, all drawings stickers or filters were lost. Users had to start the editing process again from scratch, which often slowed down conversations.
The new draft feature makes it easier to pause and return to edited media. Users can add drawings stickers and other creative elements, save the file, and send it later when the timing feels right. This is especially helpful for users who multitask or manage multiple chats at once.
At present, the feature is limited to iOS beta testers. WhatsApp has not confirmed a public release date, but such tools typically roll out globally once testing is complete. When it does arrive, it is expected to make sharing photos and videos more flexible and user friendly.
