China has openly admitted for the first time that it extended direct support to Pakistan during last year’s military confrontation with India under Operation Sindoor. The revelation came through reports aired by Chinese state media on the first anniversary of the operation, drawing fresh attention to the strategic ties between Beijing and Islamabad.

According to reports broadcast by Chinese state television CCTV and later highlighted by the South China Morning Post, Chinese engineers were stationed at Pakistani airbases during the conflict. Their role reportedly involved monitoring and providing technical support for Chinese made fighter aircraft used by the Pakistan Air Force.

The military confrontation began after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, in which 26 civilians lost their lives. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, targeting terror infrastructure across the border. The operation triggered four days of intense military tensions between India and Pakistan.

Chinese aviation engineers Zhang Heng and Zhu Da, associated with the Aviation Industry Corporation of China AVIC, reportedly worked inside Pakistani airbases throughout the conflict. In an interview aired on CCTV, engineer Zhang Heng said they operated under extreme conditions with fighter jet activity, warning sirens, and temperatures touching 50 degrees Celsius.

Indian defence officials had earlier accused China of sharing satellite intelligence and strategic assistance with Pakistan during the operation. Beijing had not officially responded to those allegations at the time. However, the latest disclosures by Chinese state media are now being viewed as an indirect confirmation of that support.

Operation Sindoor became one of the most intense military episodes between India and Pakistan in recent years. India had claimed that more than 100 terrorists were eliminated during the operation and also stated that 13 Pakistani aircraft were destroyed in the conflict.

The latest admission from China is expected to deepen regional security concerns and may further complicate the already sensitive relationship between India, China, and Pakistan.
