A major political shift is unfolding in Tamil Nadu as the Congress party has decided to support actor turned politician Vijay and his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in forming the next government. The move comes after TVK delivered a strong performance in the recent Assembly elections, challenging the long standing dominance of regional giants.

With 108 seats in the 234 member Assembly, TVK fell just short of a majority. However, Congress holding five seats has now stepped in to bridge the gap, taking the alliance strength to 113. The party is expected to soon submit a formal letter of support to the Governor, clearing the way for Vijay to take oath as Chief Minister, possibly as early as tomorrow.

The decision was finalized after discussions within the Congress Political Affairs Committee. According to Congress leader Shashikant Senthil, the authority to extend support was delegated to the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee. Party insiders indicate that Congress is aiming to secure two minister positions in the upcoming cabinet, while also placing a condition that TVK must not align with NDA or its allies.

This political realignment has effectively ended the decades long alliance between Congress and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Reacting sharply, DMK leaders described the move as a betrayal. Party spokesperson A Saravanan criticized Congress, claiming it would not have won even those five seats without DMK’s backing.

The development marks a turning point in Tamil Nadu politics, with Vijay’s rise signaling a shift away from traditional party dominance and opening a new chapter in the state’s leadership landscape.
