Indian students in Iran have been moved to safer locations as tensions escalated following recent military strikes involving the United States and Israel. The Indian Embassy in Tehran initiated emergency measures to ensure the safety of Indian citizens especially students studying in the country.

A large number of Indian students were relocated from the Iranian capital Tehran to the comparatively safer city of Qom. Embassy officials arranged transportation through buses and ensured that the students were provided with food accommodation and security during the relocation process.

More than two hundred students reached Qom safely during the operation which was completed on Tuesday morning. Reports indicate that many of the students who were shifted belong to Jammu and Kashmir and are currently pursuing medical education in Iran.

The relocation was confirmed by the All India Medical Students Association and the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association. According to the groups the students are currently staying in secure facilities while authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.

The Indian Embassy has also issued an advisory for all Indian citizens in Iran. People have been advised to remain indoors as much as possible avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from crowded places or public gatherings.

Officials also cautioned citizens not to stand near windows and to stay alert as security conditions may change rapidly. The embassy said its twenty four hour helplines are active and Indian nationals should contact them immediately if assistance is required.

There are around nine thousand Indians including students currently living in Iran. While many have already moved to safer locations some individuals are still in Tehran and the embassy is continuing to monitor their safety.

Due to the closure of airspace an evacuation plan has not yet been finalized. Families in India are anxious about the safety of their children but officials have assured that the situation is being closely watched and further steps will be taken if necessary.
