Telangana Retired Cop Dies Amid Financial Stress Over Unpaid Dues

A retired sub inspector of police died in Khammam after battling illness and prolonged financial hardship caused by the delay in receiving his pension dues. The incident has once again brought attention to the difficulties faced by retired government employees.
K Maisaiah served in the Armed Police wing and retired from service in February last year. Since his retirement, he had been awaiting the release of his pension and other retirement benefits. According to family members, nearly sixty lakh rupees in dues were pending, leaving the household under severe financial pressure.
Maisaiah and his wife Bhagyamma were both suffering from serious health issues related to kidney and heart ailments. They were admitted to a private hospital in Khammam, while Bhagyamma was later shifted to Hyderabad for advanced treatment. As his condition worsened, Maisaiah passed away late Wednesday night.
Members of the Retired Police Officers Association stepped in to support the family. Part of the hospital expenses was cleared by association leaders, while the hospital management waived the remaining amount considering the family’s condition. Financial assistance was also provided to help perform the final rites.
Association representatives said the death highlights the hardship caused by delayed pension payments. They urged the state government to act swiftly and resolve pension issues affecting many retired personnel, stressing that timely benefits are critical for dignity and survival after service.
