The ongoing Russia Ukraine war has resulted in devastating human losses, with a new international assessment revealing the scale of destruction caused since the conflict began.

According to a report released by the United States based think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies, nearly two million people from both countries are estimated to have lost their lives during the prolonged fighting.

The report suggests that Russia has suffered the highest losses, with at least 1.2 million deaths. Among them, around 3.25 lakh are believed to be soldiers, while the remaining include support forces, private military groups and civilians.

Analysts describe this as one of the heaviest human losses faced by Russia in modern history, underlining the intensity of the conflict and its sustained impact on manpower.

Ukraine has also paid a heavy price. The CSIS report estimates that nearly 1.4 lakh Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in the war. In addition, up to six lakh people are reported to be affected through injuries, missing cases or forced transfers.

Experts caution that the consequences of the war extend far beyond the battlefield. The report highlights deep humanitarian suffering, displacement of civilians and lasting pressure on national resources.

CSIS further warned that the conflict could continue to influence international security, economic stability and refugee movements for years to come, even if active fighting reduces.

As the war drags on, the figures serve as a stark reminder of the human cost behind geopolitical confrontations.
