Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said the Congress Party did not have the clear stand on the statement made by KPCC Working President Satish Jarkiholi on Hinduism.
On the one hand Jarkiholi refuses to withdraw his statement and on the other, Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar said such statements are unacceptable.Leader of Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah has shirked away from this row.
“I did not know why there was a lack of clarity in that party. Action must be taken against Jarkiholi if he fails to fall in line or else leaders must say they will vouch for it,” he said.
“Hindus are in majority. He is behaving in a manner that hurts the sentiments of Hindus. This shows the intention of the Congress to keep the country in confusion and rule. Former AICC President Rahul Gandhi has been silent on this issue. He visits temples and offers puja and indirectly supports such statements. This kind of dual stand is not good for the Congress,” he added.
Asked about Jarkiholi’s offer to resign if his statement is proven wrong, Bommai said he must first explain on what basis he made the statement.
There will be many issues on the internet having both pro and anti versions, and it was up to them what to take and what not, he said. “Those who are in public life must not hurt the sentiments of anyone and behave cautiously. Congress leaders’ statement that this is not a matter worth discussing is unjustifiable. They will suffer in the coming days.”
