DK Shivakumar Says Congress High Command Will Decide Cabinet Berths

Amid growing speculation over the Karnataka cabinet formation, Chief Minister designate DK Shivakumar said decisions on ministerial appointments will be made entirely by the Congress leadership.

Bengaluru witnessed fresh political discussions on Sunday as Chief Minister designate DK Shivakumar addressed questions regarding the much anticipated formation of the Karnataka cabinet. While expectations remain high among party leaders aspiring for ministerial positions, Shivakumar made it clear that the final decision rests with the Congress high command.

Speaking to reporters, he said he had no information about who would be included in the new cabinet. According to him, the selection of ministers is a matter that will be decided by the party’s central leadership, and any official announcement will come through the appropriate channels.

His remarks come at a time when intense speculation is surrounding the allocation of key portfolios and the possible inclusion of senior as well as first time legislators in the government. However, Shivakumar chose not to comment on individual names or ongoing discussions within the party.

When asked whether any ministers would take the oath of office alongside him, the Chief Minister designate maintained the same position, saying he was not aware of the details and that the matter would be handled by the party leadership.

Political observers believe the statement signals that consultations are still underway at the national level and that the cabinet structure has not yet been finalized. Several leaders within the party are reportedly hoping to secure ministerial responsibilities, making the selection process closely watched across the state.

By repeatedly emphasizing the role of the Congress high command, Shivakumar underlined that authority over cabinet appointments remains with the party’s top decision makers. His comments have temporarily put speculation to rest while attention now shifts to the leadership’s final announcement on the composition of the new government.
