Centre initiates several steps to develop medical infrastructure in Telangana: Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad: Union Minister of Tourism and Culture G Kishan Reddy has said that the NDA Government at the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken several steps towards development of Medical infrastructure in the state of Telangana
In a statement here on Wednesday, Reddy said the establishment of the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) at Bibi Nagar near Hyderabad is being done with a total cost of 1,028 crores. Of this, about Rs 800 crores worth of constructions are being undertaken.
He said the existing structures have been developed to accommodate a 720-bed super specialty hospital. A 30-bed Ayush Hospital, academic block for MBBS & Nursing students, hostels, staff quarters, 650 seat auditorium, construction of conference hall, Out Patient Department (OPD) block etc. are being undertaken. Now apart from classes for students, OPD services have also started for the public.
For construction of a new OPD block and provision of advanced medical facilities at ESIC Hospital, Sanat Nagar, Rs. 1,032 crores have been allocated, Reddy said.
He said, under the Pradhan MantriSwasthya Suraksha Yojana scheme, RIMS in Adilabad and Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal have been given a total of Rs 240 crores at the rate of Rs 120 crores per hospital.
Construction of new blocks was undertaken and advanced medical facilities such as Operation Theatres and Intensive care units were constructed. Additionally, the provision of 150 to 250 additional beds, setting up of 8 to 10 super specialty departments, and allotment of around 15 additional PG seats have also been undertaken, the Union Minister said.During this time, steps have also been undertaken to improve primary health centers. 4,549 Health & Wellness Centers have been either set up or upgraded across the state of Telangana at a cost of Rs 902 crore under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Out of these, 418 AYUSH, 3,035 Sub-Health Centers, 636 Primary Health Centers have been established or upgraded. Additionally, 230 Urban Primary Health Centers and 230 Basti Davakhana have also been established.
The state of Telangana will also have a Regional Center of the National Center for Disease Control for the Southern Region with a cost of Rs 30 crores. Keeping in view the demand for oxygen during COVID-19, 50 oxygen plants have been set up in various government hospitals across the state through PMCARES funds. As part of the Swachh Bharat programme, 31.2 lakh toilets have been constructed across the state of Telangana at a cost of Rs.3,744 crores.The Narendra Modi government’s aim has been to establish a medical college in every district. Former Union Ministers of Health and Family Welfare J.P Nadda and Dr Harsha Vardhan have in the past written several letters to the Chief Minister of Telangana K. Chandrashekhara Rao and other officers in the state government requesting them to send proposals for the establishment of medical colleges in the state of Telangana as per the prescribed norms and guidelines.
Unfortunately, there has been no response from the Telangana government, he said.The Narendra Modi government will continue to work towards the development of infrastructure in the health sector in the state of Telangana through various such measures, Reddy added.
