Telangana DGP emphasizes importance of forensic science in criminal investigations

Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police Anjani Kumar emphasized the importance of using forensic science effectively to expedite criminal investigations.
Participating in a video conference held at State Police Headquarters here on Tuesday, he urged all police personnel, including SHOs, DSPs, and Additional SPs across the state, to use forensic science as a tool in crime investigations, a police release said.The DGP highlighted the importance of forensic science in addressing new challenges in criminal investigations, particularly in cybercrime and POSCO cases.
Kumar said the state government, led by the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, is allocating funds to strengthen the police department with state-of-the-art machinery, such as the Command Control Tower in Banjara Hills.
He stressed the need for police officers to value the self-respect of citizens and speak politely to everyone who visits their police stations.The DGP acknowledged the role of technology and modern facilities in criminal investigations but said that these are useless if the self-esteem of citizens is not valued.
He urged police officers to provide dignity to every individual, including family members of the 80,000 policemen employed in the police department.Kumar said there is a need to prevent custodial violence and ensure the safety of all citizens.
The appointment of a large number of women police officers who are expected to join the police department in the next three to four months was also discussed. The officers will be trained in modern technologies and given due respect.Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory, which has the most advanced equipment in the country, has been instrumental in expediting investigations of cases.
The laboratory has been able to provide forensic reports on POSCO cases within weeks of investigation, making it the first laboratory in the country to do so.The laboratory also detects synthetic drugs within minutes and plays a vital role in identifying fake videos.Additional DG and Director of the Forensic Science laboratory Shikha Goyal, Scientists K. Anjana, Gnaneshwar, and others from the Forensic Science Laboratory participated in the video conference.
