The Andhra Pradesh government has moved swiftly to implement major administrative changes following strong observations by the High Court over the 2018 Group 1 recruitment process. The court directed that officers selected through the examination should not hold key positions until the probe into alleged irregularities is completed.
A division bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court instructed the government to place all selected officers in non sensitive posts. The court specifically asked the state to attach 26 officers currently working in important positions to the General Administration Department pending further investigation.
Responding to the directive the government ordered transfers of several officials including Revenue Divisional Officers from key divisions. Officers identified under the 2018 Group 1 batch were reviewed and reassigned as part of compliance with the court order. Transfer orders were issued attaching them to the General Administration Department.
The High Court earlier expressed strong displeasure over delays in implementing its instructions and questioned why officers continued in priority posts despite clear orders. It even summoned the Chief Secretary seeking an explanation for non compliance which led to immediate corrective action by the administration.
Officials said the entire transfer process is now under close judicial scrutiny. Further decisions will depend on the outcome of the ongoing inquiry into the 2018 Group 1 examination and the court’s subsequent directions.
