The formal election process will begin on March 30 with the issuance of the gazette notification. From that date, candidates intending to contest the Tamil Nadu Assembly election will be able to begin filing their nominations.

The last date for submitting nomination papers has been fixed as April 6. Election officials will examine the nomination documents on April 7 as part of the scrutiny process to ensure all applications meet the required rules and conditions.

Candidates who wish to withdraw their nominations will be allowed to do so until April 9. After this deadline, the final list of contestants for the Tamil Nadu Assembly election 2026 will be prepared by election authorities.

Polling across all 234 constituencies will be conducted in a single phase on April 23. Once voting concludes, the counting of votes will take place on May 4 and the entire election process is expected to be completed by May 6.

West Bengal will witness a two phase polling process on April 23 and April 29, while Kerala, Assam and Puducherry will vote in a single phase on April 9.

To ensure smooth conduct of the elections, the Commission plans to deploy nearly 25 lakh personnel including polling staff, security forces and election observers across the states.
