Andhra Pradesh is moving ahead with an ambitious plan to become a major AP East West Cargo Corridor, with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu directing officials to accelerate operations in newly developed ports across the state.
During a high level review meeting on ports and fishing harbours, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to begin cargo handling activities at the earliest in key ports including Mulapeta, Machilipatnam, and Ramayapatnam. He instructed officials to ensure these ports are fully operational without delays.
The government aims to connect these ports with hinterland regions of neighbouring states such as Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Karnataka. This move is expected to strengthen cargo transportation and position Andhra Pradesh as a central logistics hub on the east coast.
Officials informed that the construction of Machilipatnam and Ramayapatnam ports is expected to be completed by December 2026. The Chief Minister also highlighted that Ramayapatnam port will evolve into a major container and bulk cargo hub once the proposed refinery by Bharat Petroleum Corporation is established.
To support industrial growth, plans are underway to develop port based townships and industrial corridors near these ports. Additionally, railway connectivity is being enhanced with approval for a dedicated route from Ramayapatnam to the Kadapa steel plant.
The Chief Minister also directed faster development of fishing harbours in Budagatlapalem, Pudimadaka, and Kothapatnam under the second phase. These projects are expected to improve livelihoods and strengthen coastal infrastructure.
With ports and fishing harbours planned at regular intervals along the coastline, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as a key logistics hub. The government believes that current global disruptions have increased the importance of India’s east coast ports, creating new opportunities for growth.
The AP East West Cargo Corridor initiative is expected to transform cargo handling, trade, and industrial development in the state, making it a significant player in national and international logistics.
