Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has rolled out the Divyang Shakti Scheme, a major welfare initiative aimed at improving mobility and accessibility for persons with disabilities across the state.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, along with Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, formally launched the scheme at a public event in Mangalagiri. The initiative marks a significant step in expanding support systems for differently abled citizens.

Under the scheme, eligible persons with disabilities will be provided free travel in APSRTC buses throughout the state. The benefit is applicable to individuals with more than forty percent disability, ensuring broader access to transportation for daily needs.

In a key expansion, the scheme now covers multiple categories of disabilities, significantly increasing the number of beneficiaries. Authorities estimate that over one million individuals, along with their caregivers, will benefit from the program.

The government has also extended partial support to attendants accompanying disabled passengers, offering a fifty percent concession in bus fares. This move is expected to ease the financial burden on families and improve overall travel convenience.

Officials stated that the scheme will require a substantial annual allocation, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusive welfare. Plans are also in place to implement the initiative across all constituencies with local representatives overseeing its rollout.

The leadership expressed confidence that the Divyang Shakti Scheme will enhance the quality of life for persons with disabilities by ensuring easier access to transportation, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
