Online food delivery service Zomato has increased its platform fee once again, adding to the cost burden on customers. The revised charges have come into effect from March 20, impacting every order placed through the app.

Under the new pricing, the platform fee has been raised by around 2.40 rupees per order. The base fee has moved from 12.50 rupees to 14.90 rupees, and when taxes are included, users may end up paying close to 17.50 rupees per order as platform charges alone.

The company has attributed the increase to rising operational expenses and fluctuations in global fuel prices. Higher delivery costs have pushed platforms to revise their fee structures in an effort to maintain profitability.

Importantly, the platform fee applies to all users, including those subscribed to premium services like membership plans that offer free delivery. This means even small value orders will now carry an additional fixed cost.

Market observers note that competitors may also consider similar revisions, potentially leading to a broader increase in food delivery costs across platforms.

The frequent revisions have drawn mixed reactions from users, with many expressing concern over steadily rising charges. Over the past few years, the platform fee has seen a sharp increase, reflecting changing business dynamics in the delivery sector.

As the new pricing takes effect, customers are likely to feel the impact on their overall order value, especially for regular and low cost purchases.
