- Lower tax benefits operators and passengers
In a move aimed at strengthening the transport sector, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced a significant reduction in taxes for private travel buses, offering relief to operators and encouraging them to register their vehicles within the state.
Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy revealed that the quarterly tax per seat for travel buses will be reduced from four thousand to two thousand five hundred. The decision is expected to make Andhra Pradesh more attractive for bus operators who currently register their vehicles in other states due to lower taxes.
The announcement was made during a video conference with members of the All India Tourist Bus Owners Association, where the minister discussed steps to support the industry and address long standing concerns of operators.
Officials believe the tax reduction will not only benefit bus owners but also indirectly help passengers by reducing operational costs. At the same time, the government has emphasized strict adherence to safety standards, including regular fitness checks for buses to prevent accidents.
The minister also assured that a special committee comprising senior officials will be formed to resolve issues faced by bus operators on a regular basis. He encouraged operators to follow regulations and cooperate with authorities.
As part of the plan, bus owners have been urged to bring vehicles registered in other states back to Andhra Pradesh and complete the re registration process. The government expects around seven hundred buses to be shifted within two months of implementing the tax cut.
The minister clarified that buses should strictly be used for passenger transport and not for carrying goods, except for passenger luggage. This rule will be enforced to maintain safety and compliance.
Currently, many private operators from Andhra Pradesh prefer registering their buses in other states due to lower taxes. The government’s latest decision is seen as an effort to reverse this trend and bring more vehicles under the state’s registration system.
With this tax reduction, the government hopes to create a more balanced and regulated transport environment while supporting both operators and passengers.
