Telangana ZPTC and MPTC Elections Update as SEC Begins Preparations for May Polls
Telangana State Election Commission initiates voter list revision and election planning for ZPTC and MPTC polls, aiming to conduct elections in May following resolution of legal and reservation issues.

- Telangana ZPTC MPTC elections preparations begin
- SEC voter list update for May elections starts
- Telangana local elections gain momentum statewide
The election atmosphere is set to return in Telangana as preparations begin for the upcoming ZPTC and MPTC elections. The State Election Commission has initiated the process with a clear focus on conducting the polls in May, provided all administrative steps move forward as planned.
As part of the groundwork, district collectors across the state have been directed to begin updating voter lists. The exercise will be carried out based on the latest electoral data, ensuring that all eligible voters are accurately mapped to their respective polling stations. Officials have also been instructed to identify additional voters and align them with local bodies and polling booths using structured guidelines.
The commission has confirmed that elections will be held for 566 ZPTC and 5773 MPTC seats across Telangana. However, Hyderabad and Medchal Malkajgiri districts are excluded from this process. The number of seats has slightly reduced compared to previous elections due to administrative changes and urban expansion, where several gram panchayats have been merged into municipalities.
This election process had earlier faced delays due to legal complications related to reservations. With the High Court now clearing those issues, authorities have resumed planning and are preparing fresh reservation based lists. Draft voter lists are expected to be released soon, followed by a period for objections before final lists are published.
The last ZPTC and MPTC elections were conducted in May 2019 in multiple phases. Since the tenure of elected representatives ended last year, special officers have been managing these local bodies. Although an attempt was made to conduct elections earlier, unresolved legal matters forced a postponement.
Once the voter lists are finalized, the administration will move ahead with logistical arrangements such as ballot box preparation and setting up polling stations. These elections are expected to be politically significant, with major parties gearing up to strengthen their presence at the grassroots level.
With recent successes in local and municipal elections, the ruling Congress party is aiming to maintain its momentum. Meanwhile, opposition parties are also intensifying their strategies, making the upcoming elections a closely watched political contest across the state.
