Andhra Pradesh has taken a significant step towards expanding its renewable energy footprint with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laying the foundation stone for a massive Rs 5400 crore solar manufacturing project in Anakapalli district.

The facility, being developed by ReNew Energy Global, will include a 6 gigawatt solar ingot and wafer manufacturing unit at Rambilli. The project is expected to play a crucial role in building a strong domestic solar supply chain, reducing reliance on imports, and improving India’s energy security.

Addressing a public gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted that Anakapalli is emerging as a key destination for large scale industrial investments. He noted that such projects are positioning the district to become one of the top investment hubs in the country.

The solar plant is expected to be completed within 24 months and will generate more than 2100 direct and indirect employment opportunities. Officials believe the project will significantly contribute to industrial growth in the region while supporting the state’s clean energy transition.

Naidu also stressed that electricity consumption is a major indicator of development, adding that Andhra Pradesh is witnessing a steady inflow of investments in power generation and renewable energy sectors.

The state government has set ambitious goals in line with national targets. India aims to achieve 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030, and Andhra Pradesh plans to contribute around 160 gigawatts. This could attract investments worth nearly Rs 10 lakh crore and create lakhs of jobs across the state.

During recent investment summits, major commitments have already been secured, including large scale renewable energy projects in Anantapur and Kurnool districts. The government is also encouraging households to adopt solar energy, with plans to install rooftop systems in 40 lakh homes.

In addition to solar expansion, the state is pushing for electric mobility. The Chief Minister announced plans to convert all APSRTC buses into electric vehicles in the future and set up 5000 charging stations within the next three years to support the transition.

Infrastructure development is also progressing alongside energy initiatives. The upcoming Bhogapuram Airport is expected to be operational soon, while irrigation projects like Sujala Sravanthi aim to improve water supply to the Anakapalli region.

With multiple agreements already signed in recent months, the government remains confident that Andhra Pradesh is on track to become a leading clean energy hub, driven by investments like the ReNew solar manufacturing plant.
