Telangana Plans Major Police Recruitment Drive With 5000 Posts
Telangana government is preparing to launch a recruitment drive for 5000 police posts as part of a phased plan to strengthen the force and address long standing vacancies.

- Telangana Police Recruitment for 5000 posts
- Police Vacancies exceed 19000 positions
- Cyber Crime units to get new recruits
The Telangana government is likely to provide a significant opportunity for unemployed youth by moving ahead with plans to recruit around 5000 police personnel in the first phase of a large scale hiring exercise. Sources indicate that proposals submitted by the police department have already reached the finance department for approval.
The state police department is currently facing a shortage of more than 19000 personnel across various ranks. To address the issue without putting excessive pressure on finances, the government is reportedly considering filling the vacancies in stages. As part of this approach, the first recruitment notification is expected to cover approximately 5000 posts.
Officials believe that the remaining vacancies, estimated at around 14000, could be filled in subsequent phases once the necessary financial clearances are received from the finance department.
The need for fresh recruitment has become more urgent as over 2000 police personnel retire from service every year. This has increased the workload on existing staff and created operational challenges in several wings of the department.
According to sources, the recruitment process is expected to be accelerated to ensure adequate manpower in the police force. The move is also aimed at strengthening law enforcement capabilities across the state.
A large number of candidates selected through the upcoming recruitment drive are likely to be deployed in specialized units dealing with cyber crime and drug related offences. These areas have emerged as key concerns for law enforcement agencies in recent years.
Reports suggest that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has advised senior police officials to focus on strengthening these critical departments through the new recruitment initiative, helping the state tackle evolving security challenges more effectively.
