Hyderabad, Aug 1 (UNI) Telangana received 85 percent excess rainfalls during the water year 2022-23 up to July 31. A statement here on Monday said that the Ground Water Department monitored water levels during July- 2022 through 1362 Piezometers (monitoring stations) covering all mandals from 33 districts of Telangana State. During the water year 2022-23 (up to 31 st July 2022), the State received rainfall of 690 mm against 374 mm of normal rainfall and it ranges from 239 mm (Jogulamba (Gadwal) Dist) to 1201 mm (Mulugu Dist) and thus there is an 85 percent excess rainfall during this period as compared to normal annual rainfall.
All 33 districts received excess rainfall in the range of 33 to 138 percent. Average groundwater levels in the State during July-2022 were 5.14 meters below ground level (m bgl) and it varies from 1.41 m bgl (Jagityal) to 11.22 m bgl (Medak). Out of 33 districts in 17 districts average water level is < 5 m bgl, in 14 districts it is between 5-10 m bgl, and remaining 02 districts it is >10 mbgl. A net average rise of 0.93 m in groundwater levels was ob- served during July-2022 as compared to July-2021 and a rise is observed in 26 districts (0.10m Adilabad to 4.13m in Peddapalli) and fall in the remaining 07 districts (0.08 Nagarkurnool to 1.31 in Wanaparthy). A net average rise of 3.87 m in groundwater levels was observed during July-2022 as compared to May-2022 and a rise is observed in all 33 districts (0.24 m Jogulamba (Gadwal) to 7.08 m in Karimnagar), the statement added.
