Telangana’s GO on 42% BC Quota in Local Bodies a Testament to Revanth’s Commitment: Minister Vakiti Srihari
Hyderabad, September 27: Telangana Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development & Fisheries, Sports & Youth Services Vakiti Srihari on Friday welcomed the state government’s decision to issue a Government Order (GO) implementing 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections.
Srihari said the move reflects the vision of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has consistently advocated giving BCs opportunities in education, employment, and politics in proportion to their population. “Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has once again proven through this GO that he is a child of the BC community,” he remarked.
Calling the order a “first step towards the statehood of BCs”, Srihari highlighted that the government has gone beyond promises by establishing a dedication commission for BCs and conducting a scientific caste census through the Planning Department—a step that he noted has not been undertaken elsewhere in the country.
“This GO is a testament to the sincerity of our government and the commitment of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy towards BCs,” he added, asserting that the decision paves the way for greater representation and empowerment of backward classes in the state’s political process.
