The Telangana government has unveiled a major initiative aimed at improving economic independence among Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe youth by introducing subsidised electric vehicles and employment focused programs.
Under a ₹219 crore plan, the scheme targets providing livelihood opportunities to over 10000 young beneficiaries across sectors such as ecommerce logistics solar energy and livestock. Officials said the goal is to help youth move beyond traditional occupations and tap into emerging industries.
A key highlight of the program is the distribution of electric vehicles at highly subsidised rates. Two wheeler EVs will be provided to over 5000 beneficiaries, while more than 2500 individuals will receive three wheeler EVs for public transport and logistics use. For vehicles priced around ₹3 lakh, beneficiaries will only need to contribute about ₹70000, making the scheme highly accessible.
The strong response is already visible, with nearly 30000 applications received for two wheeler EVs alone. Authorities are in the process of selecting eligible candidates at the district level, with final selections expected to begin soon.
Alongside transport support, the government is also focusing on agriculture and rural development. Solar powered pump sets will be provided to around 500 farmers to bring uncultivated land back into use. These projects aim to address irrigation challenges and improve productivity.
To further strengthen rural livelihoods, livestock units have also been included in the scheme, with over 2400 units planned. The government has announced generous subsidies ranging from 60 percent to 90 percent depending on the cost of the unit, significantly reducing the financial burden on beneficiaries.
In parallel, the Tribal Welfare Department is preparing to launch skill development programs for 10500 tribal youth across various regions. With an estimated cost of ₹40 crore, training sessions are scheduled to begin from May 1, focusing on enhancing employability and job readiness.
Officials believe that by combining financial support, modern sector opportunities, and skill training, the initiative will create sustainable employment and empower thousands of youth across Telangana.
