Actor Mohan Babu received temporary relief from the Andhra Pradesh High Court in connection with a student leaders kidnap case, as the court directed police not to take any immediate coercive action against him.

The court made it clear that until a final decision is taken on his anticipatory bail petition, authorities must refrain from acting in haste. It also announced that the verdict on his bail plea will be delivered on the 16th of this month, following detailed arguments from both sides.

During the hearing, Mohan Babu’s legal team argued that he had no role in the alleged kidnapping incident. They informed the court that he was not present at the location when the incident occurred and submitted evidence stating that he had traveled from Hyderabad to Tirupati later. The defense also claimed that the issue was being exaggerated, affecting the reputation of the university linked to him.

On the other hand, the prosecution presented counter arguments, stating that there is material suggesting his involvement. According to the police side, call records and messages indicate communication with university staff around the time of the alleged incident. They urged the court not to grant him protection from arrest at this stage.

The case dates back to February, when student union leaders Vinod and Akbar were allegedly taken away forcibly near Tirupati amid protests over high fee structures at a private university. Following complaints, police registered a kidnapping case and launched an investigation. The two students were later traced and rescued, while several individuals including bouncers were taken into custody.

Police also informed the court that another accused in the case had not cooperated with notices issued during the investigation. Based on these developments, cases were filed under multiple sections, naming Mohan Babu among others.

After hearing both arguments, the High Court reserved its order and granted interim protection, setting the stage for a crucial decision on the anticipatory bail plea later this month.
