A major health scare unfolded in Srikakulam district after nearly 80 people fell ill following the consumption of badam milk during a temple festival. The incident took place in Singupuram village during the Kondamma Thalli celebrations, causing concern among local residents and officials.

According to initial reports, the festival was held on the first and second of the month with large gatherings of devotees. Due to the intense summer heat, many attendees consumed badam milk sold from a mobile van at the venue. However, the situation turned serious late at night when several individuals began experiencing symptoms.

Victims reported vomiting diarrhea severe stomach pain and fever soon after consuming the drink. The number of affected individuals gradually increased, with children and elderly persons among those impacted. Health officials estimate that around 80 people were affected by the incident.

District Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar responded immediately after receiving information about the situation. The affected individuals were shifted to Srikakulam RIMS hospital and nearby primary health centres where they are currently receiving treatment.

Preliminary findings suggest that the illness may have been caused by contaminated or poor quality milk sold during the festival. Authorities have initiated an investigation to identify the source of contamination and ensure accountability.

Medical teams are closely monitoring the condition of patients, while officials are also reviewing food safety measures at public gatherings to prevent such incidents in the future. The incident has raised concerns about food hygiene standards during large scale events.

Further details are expected as the investigation progresses and health officials continue to assess the situation.
