After weeks of high rates, chicken prices have finally cooled, offering welcome relief to non veg consumers across the Telugu states. What was once a costly purchase during the festive rush has now become more affordable, bringing smiles back to household kitchens.

The change comes as festival related demand has tapered off. Events such as Sankranti and Medaram Jatara had pushed consumption sharply higher, while limited supply from poultry farms drove prices upward. With celebrations now over, demand has softened considerably.

At the same time, poultry farmers report improved production levels. Better availability of broilers in farms has increased market supply, creating downward pressure on prices. Traders say this balance between supply and demand is the main reason for the steady fall seen over the past ten days.

Just last month, chicken prices had crossed three hundred rupees per kilogram in many areas. Currently, average prices have dropped to around two hundred forty rupees per kilogram, marking a decline of nearly one hundred rupees. In retail markets, live chicken is selling at about one hundred forty rupees, while dressed chicken is priced near two hundred twenty rupees. Skinless chicken ranges between two hundred forty and two hundred fifty rupees depending on location.

Egg prices have also followed the same trend. After holding close to nine rupees per egg for nearly two months, rates have now eased to around six rupees each. For families that rely on eggs as a daily protein source, this drop has eased monthly food expenses.

Market observers say prices could soften further if production continues to improve. For now, falling chicken and egg prices are giving consumers a breather after a season of unusually high meat costs.
